“OLD-TIMERS”
Wonderful stories of unusual and interesting lives, from “great old-timers”. Being the last generation to have experienced a childhood where buggies, bullock-wagons and Clydies pulling ploughs were still a common sight, a couple of the stories are naturally about great horsemen, but all backgrounds are very different.
To name a few: steam-train driver; coalminer; cattleman; (Greek) cafe proprietor; Changi survivor and wharfie; wool-classer, WW2 intelligence operative; policeman; publican; pilot; politician; newspaperman; horse-trainer; jockey; fisherman, opal-miner, sculptor and deep-sea diver.
All are inspiring, e.g., the 82 year-old trainer still riding trackwork (even with his leg in plaster!); the 83 year old ex-copper still teaching riot squad and self-defence tactics; the 86 year-old woolclasser still working in the shearing sheds....
Come and meet them – our “great old-timers” - you'll laugh, cry, experience their fear and frustrations, share their triumphs. You'll want to shake their hands.
